SIM lock:

A simlock, NETWORK-LOCK, Carrier Lock, imei-lock or (master) SUBSIDY lock is a technical limit built into GSM and CDMA cellphones by manufacturers for use by providers to restrict using these phones to particular locations and/or networks. This is in contrast to a mobile phone (retrospectively called SIM-free or unlocked) that does not impose any SIM restrictions. If the mobile handsets were not locked, users may well sign a contract with a particular service, get the low priced phone, then quit paying the monthly payment (thus breaking the agreement) and start using the cell phone on another network or even sell the device for a profit. SIM locking curbs this by barring a change of network (using a new SIM).

Unlocking Technology:

Typically, a locked mobile will display a message if a restricted SIM is used, requesting the unlock code. On modern phone models operating on Android os software, the cell phone is going to show a message saying “SIM network unlock PIN” or “Enter Network Lock Control Key” if it is network locked. Windows phones should show the message, “This SIM card can only be used on specific networks. Contact your customer service center for the unlock code”. Some other devices might show a variety of messages for example "Enter special code" or "Enter unlocking code," or in some cases the handset will simply present a message stating it's locked. After a valid code is entered, the handset will display "Network unlocked” or “Network unlock successful”.

Economics:

The primary reason to unlock a mobile phone handset is going to be able to utilize it with an alternative SIM card. Users may need to carry on using their mobile phone but with a different provider or when traveling abroad they might want to connect to a international network by using a pre-paid subscription.

Unlocking Services:

Plenty of companies provide a cell phone unlocking service . This service requires individuals who would like to unlock a phone to supply their IMEI number to a service supplier and frequently they will also request the country and cellular network the phone is locked to, frequently sent through email or submitted on their web-site. The organization then will supply (at a cost to you) a unlock code for the mobile phone handset.

Unlocking Service Providers:

Unfortunately there are a great deal of scammers on line retailers working in the cell phone IMEI unlocking industry. As a consequence it is prudent to ensure you find a trustworthy service provider for such a service. To aid with the search for a legitimate company, we have provided a listing just below (and in no particular order) of several legitimate organisations currently offering such services.
