CurseForge Launches New API For The Community

Overwolf the guild of in-game creators, has released an innovative tool for mod creators to use for games such as Minecraft, World of Warcraft and many more - the CurseForge API. This software allows modders to share their mods directly on the internet. It also provides a number of possibilities for gaming communities to share content online.



This new system will give creators greater control over their work, particularly in relation to third party distribution. Authors can now choose to agree to distribution outside of CurseForge. This lets them control how their content is distributed, and also protects the monetisation through the Authors Rewards points system.



It's not just modders who can utilize the CurseForge API to their advantage. The new terms and conditions of service agreement opens up many possibilities for users who can use the system. This includes mod managers, discord bots and other gaming community projects, which will allow the system to expand and support gamers in new ways.



CurseForge API already approves 217 applications, including 42 bots and 25 analytics tools. There are also nine general modding tools, as well as 11 modpack creation tools. All power to the players



What does this mean for players? Overwolf has listened to suggestions from fans for a simpler way to manage mods, and has developed an independent version of the CurseForge application exclusively for players. The Windows standalone version, currently in alpha, is based on Electron and allows players to download and manage add-ons, mods, and more all in one convenient location. The standalone client supports World of Warcraft in its alpha version. Plans are in place to add support for Minecraft in the near future.



Linux users can download the beta version of this app for their operating systems. It currently supports World of Warcraft only.
