A film version of Mojang Studio's Minecraft is coming together. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jason Momoa, an action hero, is being considered for a role in a film adaptation of the popular game. While no contract has been signed, the possibility of Momoa's inclusion is positive for a film that has been put on Warner Bros’ back burner. According to THR, Warner Bros originally intended to release the film in March 2022. However, production delays due to the pandemic forced the film to be delayed. The film's issues go back to Covid-19. The screenwriters and director quit the film in 2014 because of creative differences with Mojang.

Napoleon Dynamite's Jared Hess has now reportedly committed to directing the film, and Dune producers Mary Parent and Roy Lee are also on board. It is not clear what Momoa will do in the film. It's not clear what elements from the game of 2011 will be included in the film or if we will see some of the fan favorites like Minecraft Steve. Mojang Studios released the film's storyline in 2019. It's quite straightforward: "The malevolent Ender dragon sets out on a path to destruction, prompting an innocent young woman, along with her group of unlikely adventurers, to set out to save the Overworld."

Fans can anticipate more developments on the film in the future. Let It Sing reported that Warner Bros.' lease on the rights to Minecraft expires in January 2023, so the film's production will need to start before then.
