Want to learn more about V Rising server? Although developers have now enabled an early version offline mode, most vampire games' large playerbase will still be playing on a dedicated server. There are many ways to play the new survival game. It's important that you understand your options. Gservers

There are many different shapes and forms of V Rising servers - developer Stunlock Games has partnered with a third party company called GPORTAL to provide official servers, and you can also rent private servers through them as well. There are more than 60 server settings that you can use to set up your own server for your personal use or for your friends. It's important to know what each setting does before you start your game.

V Rising servers can hold up to 40 people, but we've seen private servers have more. These servers have a maximum of four clans, but you can change this setting for private servers. There are many other things to be aware of, so continue reading to learn more about servers and multiplayer in V Rising.

V Rising server list

When you launch V Rising and hit 'Play', you'll be see three options:

- Online Play - Private Game - Host Dedicated Server

Online play simply takes you to another menu where you can choose what kind of game mode you're interested in - PvE, PvP, Full Loot PvP, or Duo PvP. Depending on which option you choose, you can browse a server list dedicated to just that mode. You can also browse all of the available servers on the list.

Game Pass PC Game Pass Microsoft $9.99 £1 (first month). Subscribe Network N earns commissions on qualifying purchases via Microsoft and other programmes.

You'll see a mix of privately run and official servers, with basic information such as clan size, player maximum and current player count, and the general activity level within a server.

Two things that are worth paying attention to if you're browsing a server is whether it uses the standard ruleset (denoted by a paper symbol with a tick) and whether it's a dedicated server (denoted by a symbol that looks like a stack of CD drives). The first will let you know what the rules are, while the latter will tell you how reliable accessing it will be.

V Rising offline mode

The hotfix allows players to activate a "LAN" version of the game. This lets them play without an internet connection. You can play the game solo or with your friends, as long as you're on the same network. You can find more information in the patch notes. Here are the steps that you need to follow. Before you disconnect from internet, you should:

Start Steam - Go offline. After this, you can disconnect to the internet and launch V Rising

If you are hosting a local server you need to start the server in LAN Mode by using the checkbox in the UI or starting the dedicated server with the "-lan" parameter. Connecting to a LAN server requires that you check the "LAN Server” check box in the Direct Connect to Server window. You can also use the "ConnectLan” console command.

Hosting a V Rising dedicated server

Anyone can host a dedicated server in V Rising, either by renting one via a third-party, or downloading the V Rising server client and running it on either their home PC or a dedicated server machine. You can grab the V Rising Dedicated Server tool directly from Steam, or follow the instructions when you click on 'Host Dedicated Server' in-game, which will take you to a GitHub page.

Private servers V Rising

You have two options to set up a server private: Technically, any player-run dedicated server can also be considered a private server, but there is also an option in-game to run a 'private game'. You can create a temporary server for solo play or to invite friends.

It won't be a dedicated server, as the moment you close the game the session will end for everyone else as well. Private games are just as customisable as games running on dedicated servers - you can choose rulesets, define PvP or PvP, even set player caps and clan size caps, as well as access all of the advanced server settings referenced below. You can also add a password so that only people you like (or who are /really/ good at guessing) can jump in.

This is a great way of learning the game for your first session, although be warned that at the time of writing there have been several reports of people being able to load back into games started via the 'Private Game' option. This issue also occurred when we tried to access our first save via this option.

Once you have mastered the basics, it might be worth starting over on a dedicated server for PvE and PvP to continue your long-term play.

V Rising server settings

You have over 60 settings to adjust a server to suit your needs, as we mentioned. You can adjust everything, from clan size and maximum players to starting equipment or how much damage you take from Sunlight. To learn more about the setting, click on the little 'i" symbol.

If you're hosting your own dedicated server, you can change all of these settings via the ServerGameSettings.json file. This is typically located in the VRisingServer_Data\StreamingAssets\Settings folder.

If you have chosen to host a "Private Game" through the in-game menu most settings can be accessed via the "Advanced Game Settings” button towards the bottom left-hand corner of the screen.

V Rising server status: Are the V Rising Servers Down?

The official V Rising servers will remain online 24 hours a day, but as hotfixes or patches are released, servers may be temporarily taken offline to apply any updates. Downtime can last up to 30 minutes for a typical update.

Player-run servers may enable an auto-update’ feature that will take them offline in order to apply updates as soon as they happen. Keep checking V Rising's Steam Page and official social media channels for updates so you are always up-to-date about any patches.

At the time this article was written, the developers haven't yet decided whether to wipe official servers. However the studio has said that it's "carefully observing" the situation. It's likely Stunlock will monitor the situation over time, and will take cues from the community as to whether server wipes are needed.
